VWFS Ireland's Carbon Footprint

Volkswagen Financial Services Ireland calculates its carbon footprint annually in line with CSRD requirements, with all data consolidated and reported to our parent company, VWFS AG. For 2025, our total emissions amounted to 23.08t CO₂e, with the largest contributor being business air travel, particularly short‑haul economy flights. Additional emission sources include the combustion of diesel in company‑owned vehicles, gas usage within our own facilities, electricity consumption for battery‑electric vehicles, and onsite electricity use. These measurements provide a clear basis for identifying reduction opportunities and tracking progress toward wider decarbonisation commitments.

Environmental Responsibility

At Volkswagen Financial Services Ireland, we are committed to embedding sustainability into our day‑to‑day operations. Although our core business has a relatively low direct environmental impact, we actively pursue initiatives that support more responsible resource use, lower emissions, and contribute to Ireland’s broader sustainability ambitions. Our environmental efforts focus on improving operational efficiency, reducing waste, supporting cleaner mobility, and investing in digital solutions that minimise our footprint. These key areas are outlined below and explored in greater detail in the following sections.

EV charging

• We promote the transformation to Electric vehicles

• We have transitioned our company fleet of vehicles to fully electric

• We operate using 100% Green-certified electricity in our building

• We separate and recycle waste across our offices

• Our kitchen facilities encourage employees to bring lunch from home, helping to reduce packaging waste

• We measure our carbon footprint annually and implement targeted actions to reduce it

• We continuously develop digital tools to minimise paperwork and reduce the need for printed contracts

Transition to 100% Green-Certified Electricity

In 2025, Volkswagen Financial Services Ireland strengthened its commitment to climate responsibility by transitioning the entire office building to 100% green-certified, renewable electricity. This strategic shift aligns with ESRS E1, reflecting our ambition to reduce operational emissions. By sourcing electricity exclusively from certified renewable providers, we have significantly reduced our Scope 2 emissions and advanced progress toward our long‑term environmental goals. This transition also supports Ireland’s broader renewable‑energy strategy, which positions clean electricity as a key driver of the low‑carbon economy. The move to green energy has delivered a range of organisational and environmental benefits, including greater resilience, improved efficiency and enhanced alignment with evolving EU sustainability expectations.

EV

  • Reduced operational emissions: Renewable electricity significantly lowers the carbon intensity of our office operations.

  • Greater energy resilience: provides price stability & reduced exposure to fossil‑fuel volatility.

  • Enhanced reputation & trust: Using 100% renewable electricity demonstrates credible climate action to stakeholders.

  • Support for Ireland’s energy transition: Our commitment to certified green electricity helps drive national renewable‑energy development.

  • Alignment with ESRS E1: The shift to green electricity reflects best practice under ESRS E1 and strengthens the transparency of our climate disclosures.

The adoption of 100% green-certified electricity is a key milestone in our sustainability journey. It demonstrates our commitment to reducing our environmental impact and ensures that the daily operations of VWFS Ireland actively contribute to a cleaner, more sustainable energy future.

Onsite EV Chargers

With our partner Volkswagen Group Ireland, VWFS Ireland strengthened its commitment to sustainable mobility by installing dedicated electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure at our office. This initiative forms part of our broader decarbonisation strategy and aligns with ESRS E1 – Climate Change, supporting both national and Volkswagen Group sustainability objectives. The availability of onsite charging has contributed to a reduction in Scope 1 and Scope 3 emissions linked to business travel and commuting. Beyond emissions reduction, the introduction of EV chargers has also delivered wider organisational benefits.

• Enhanced employee engagement and wellbeing: Access to workplace charging supports staff in making sustainable transport decisions, removes a key barrier to EV ownership. This contributes to higher satisfaction levels and reinforces VWFS Ireland as a forward‑looking and responsible employer.

• Alignment with national climate targets and Group strategy: By enabling greater EV adoption, the initiative supports Ireland’s transport decarbonisation goals and aligns with Volkswagen Group’s long‑term commitment to electromobility.

• Strengthened employer branding and talent attraction: The availability of EV charging facilities is increasingly recognised as a sought‑after workplace amenity. Offering this infrastructure positions VWFS Ireland as an attractive employer for talent seeking environmentally responsible organisations.

• Operational efficiencies and reduced emissions risk exposure: Supporting the transition to zero‑emission vehicles helps mitigate future regulatory and cost risks.

• This investment reflects our commitment to embedding sustainability into the daily operations of VWFS Ireland.
